October kicked off with captains and crew from run2gether participating in the Back on my Feet Marathon Relay. There were smiles, sunrises, and singing as the teams completed each lap of the course carrying their batons a full 26.2 miles. Of note, the Joseph Maley Foundation in partnership with a grant through OrthoIndy unveiled three new running joggers that the athletes used with the run2gether logo pictured above.

What is run2gether?

Run2gether operates under the JMFitness program for adaptive and inclusive athletics. The initiative pairs captains, individuals with disabilities between seven and 21, with a crew, a trio of experienced runners. The captain leads the crew to train for and compete in a variety of racing events from 5Ks to marathons around central Indiana. The crew pushes the captain in specially designed running/racing wheelchairs. Run2gether provides individuals with disabilities the opportunity to participate in exciting and challenging running events that they might not otherwise be able to be involved with. It also imparts a bond between the captain and crew through socialization, connection, and celebration of each other’s accomplishments.

What’s next for run2gether?

Run2gether athletes will be participating in the Beyond Monumental races this November. From the 5K to the full marathon, there will be run2gether captains participating every step of the way! For anyone participating in any Beyond Monumental events, be sure when registering that you “Run for a Cause” with JMF – the proceeds that you raise will benefit the Joseph Maley Foundation in serving children of all abilities.
