When Dave Morgan began planning for his retirement, time was very much on his mind. As an active individual, he wanted to ensure that retiring didn’t mean idle time.
“I read a great book called When Every Day Is Saturday, and it really spoke to me. I began recommending it to clients as they went through the process of planning financially for their own retirement,” Dave shared.
This desire to remain active and continue his personal mission of helping others manifested in a volunteer path that led him to the Joseph Maley Foundation. In 2015, Dave became a Joseph Maley Fitness mentor. This decision was based on several elements, however, Dave says, “The mission, ‘serving children of all abilities,’ was the biggest factor in volunteering. I want to help children.”
As a Joseph Maley Fitness mentor, Dave works with athletes in a variety of sports. His best mentor moment came this winter, when he was paired with Samuel for his first try at yoga. “As a 65-year old man, even though I feel thirty most days, I was still feeling a little out of place. But working with Samuel and seeing how much joy he and the other participants were getting out of it set me at ease.”
In addition to traveling, golf, and volunteering with other nonprofit organizations, Dave volunteers with the JMF events committee. He continues to spread the word about Joseph Maley Foundation programs to the wider community, by letting people know, “This is such a great organization. For a smaller nonprofit to be able to serve so many children and help them to remain active in their lives is phenomenal.”
We appreciate all of the hours Dave has committed to the Joseph Maley Foundation and our community. Thanks for being a wonderful volunteer and ambassador, Dave!
