Celebrate #GivingTuesday with the Joseph Maley Foundation

The Tuesday after Thanksgiving is a global day of generosity. Learn how to celebrate #GivingTuesday with JMF.

Have you heard of #GivingTuesday? Launched in 2012, #GivingTuesday is a global day of generosity, celebrated on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. In the midst of the shopping frenzies of Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday launches the year-end charitable season. Fueled largely by social media and online campaigns, #GivingTuesday has become a force for good around the world. Last year, donors from 71 countries made online gifts to celebrate the day.

At the Joseph Maley Foundation, this unofficial start of holiday giving has served as a serious catalyst for our impact the following year. In 2015, #GivingTuesday took place on December 1. In the subsequent year, 964 individuals, grantors, organizations, and companies have made a contribution to the Joseph Maley Foundation (plus an additional 185 donors who contributed to JMF during the Brackets for Good tournament this spring!). The generosity of all of these supporters translated to JMF serving nearly 26,000 children of all abilities in 2016.

Certainly, there is an emphasis on making financial contributions to causes close to an individual’s heart on #GivingTuesday, but the power of offering time and talent are also celebrated. Today, we ask our supporters to share your Why JMF moments. Why do you choose to support the Joseph Maley Foundation with gifts of time, talent, or treasure? Join our conversation on JMF’s Facebook and Twitter pages, and use the hashtag #JMFWhyWeGive to share your story this #GivingTuesday.

For my family, our #JMFWhyWeGive has evolved over the years. When I started working for the Joseph Maley Foundation in 2012, I was excited about the mission of JMF and knew our programs could effect meaningful change in central Indiana. As time has passed, my reasons have become more personal. I’m now the mother of a (very, very busy) two-year old boy. I care passionately that he grow up in a community that is accepting of everyone, regardless of ability, ethnicity, or orientation; a place that celebrates our differences and empowers children to lift up one another and share their gifts with the world. We give to the Joseph Maley Foundation because I believe this organization is truly having a positive impact on our community, and I want to ensure the sustainability of JMF’s work for the long-term.
