Take a moment and imagine a world without friendship. Living a life without someone to confide in during difficult times, or to celebrate milestones with. For millions of individuals with Intellectual or Developmental Disabilities (IDD/DD) this lonely, isolated world, is their reality. In 1989 Best Buddies International was incorporated in order to combat this societal injustice and to promote inclusion.

Since its inception, Best Buddies has grown into the world’s largest organization dedicated to ending the social, physical and economic isolation of 200 million people with IDD/DD. With One-to-One Friendship programs in all 50 states and 54 countries, Best Buddies has impacted the lives of millions of participant’s both with and without disabilities.

2016 saw the partnership of Best Buddies Indiana and the Joseph Maley Foundation’s Service Day program. This unique Service Learning program provided youth ages 5-16 with the opportunity to simultaneously serve the nonprofit while learning about their mission. Students were also actively engaged in empathy, cooperation and inclusion activities, which taught them the importance of equity, diversity and supportive environments.

JMF Youth Service Day volunteers, provided Best Buddies Indiana with much needed assistance for events such as the annual Friendship Walk/5k, Gala and Leadership Conference, by preparing countless materials and resources.
