Joseph Maley Foundation is thrilled to announce a special evening of comedy with Indianapolis-based comedian Lucas Waterfill, who will be hosting a benefit show in support of our mission on October 22 at White Rabbit Cabaret.
Lucas Waterfill has quickly become a standout in both the local and national comedy scenes, with performances from New York to Los Angeles. As a featured performer at White Rabbit Cabaret with his monthly Ride or Die showcase, Lucas blends personal storytelling with bold social commentary. Born with cerebral palsy, he draws on his lived experiences to craft a style of comedy that is both thought-provoking and refreshingly authentic. His sharp wit and candid voice challenge perceptions, spark meaningful conversations, and connect audiences through shared laughter.
Lucas has a deep connection with Joseph Maley Foundation. While in middle school, he was a speaker with our Disability Awareness program. “Middle school was hard. Being a speaker helped me break out of a shell, and gave me confidence. It made me feel like a rockstar.”
He was drawn to comedy from an early age. Lucas shared, “I grew up loving performers like Chris Rock and George Carlin. I’ve always wanted to be a performer and after my first stand-up gig, that was it for me. I knew I wanted to do this for a living.”
He has incorporated his disability from the beginning of this comedy journey. “My disability has always been part of the act. I hope I’m a voice within that sphere, without being pigeonholed as ‘inspirational’.”
Lucas is also displaying his talents as a playwright and actor. Up All the Nights, co-written with Blake Mellencamp, debuted at Indy Fringe in August. “To be seen in the world of comedy, you have to do a little of everything. Podcasts, stand-up, etc. My first love is stand-up, but this play is another way to share and laugh.”
As an advocate and performer, Lucas embodies authenticity. His work breaks down barriers, making space for greater understanding of disability and differences while reminding us there is room for laughter.
The comedy showcase on October 22, 2025 is co-hosted by our Young Professionals Board. The event is 21+ audiences only; advance tickets are $20. Doors open at 7 PM. You can purchase your tickets via our website.
