April is National Volunteer Month, and as the month winds down, the Joseph Maley Foundation would like to provide our audience with a full list of upcoming volunteer opportunities. Keep reading to learn more about the volunteer needs for each of our programs, as well as our upcoming events.

Butterfly Tea: Saturday, April 27

Event Description:
The seventh annual Joseph Maley Foundation Butterfly Tea is a lovely afternoon event where guests can enjoy one another’s company, share treats and fine teas, and celebrate the work of the people who empower the Joseph Maley Foundation to serve children of all abilities. Attendees will also be able to hear the empowering stories of our 2019 keynote speakers, Maggie and Kate McGowan. Maggie is a disABILITY Awareness speaker who will share her story of life with dyslexia, followed by Kate’s perspective as a mother of an exceptional child. Guests will also have the opportunity to participate in our silent auction.

Volunteer Needs:

  • Prepping food (Friday, April 26)
  • Set up (11:00 AM – 1:30 PM on April 27)

Joseph Maley Road Mile: Friday, June 28

Event Description:
Race through the streets of downtown Indianapolis for one mile on Friday, June 28 for a prize purse totaling $1,000. This fast, downhill course begins on the West New York Street Bridge and finishes on IUPUI’s Michael A. Carroll Stadium Track. This event is open to individuals of all ages and abilities, and is a great preview for our July 20 Run, Walk, Roll.

Run, Walk, Roll: Saturday, July 20

Event Description:
Join the Joseph Maley Foundation on Saturday, July 20, 2019 for Indy’s premier summer road race event. Start and finish on the Michael A. Carroll Stadium Track at IUPUI and run through the streets of scenic downtown Indianapolis while supporting the Joseph Maley Foundation mission, “serving children of all abilities.” Participants of all ages and abilities are welcome. 5K and 10-Miler options available.

Volunteer Needs:

  • Course marshals
  • Water station volunteers
  • Registration and bag check
  • Infield volunteers
  • Set up and tear down volunteers

  • In need of professional speakers from the mental health field for both student and parent groups.
  • Volunteers for facilitating small groups for our We Step Up initiative. A training will be provided by JMF staff.
